Summer Work- Rising 4th Graders

 Dear Parents and Scholars, 

Congratulations! You survived the entire year, wearing a mask all day, staying six feet apart, and using the heck out of Clorox wipes- all while learning and working very hard! Now it is time to rest.  Summer is meant for family, fun, and lazy days!   It is also a time to practice and get ready for the upcoming school year. This summer I want you to pace yourself; you don’t need to rush to complete your summer work straight away.  Instead, set aside 15-30 minutes of quiet time each day to read, write, engage in learning games or work in IXL.  Make sure to keep on track with your learning this summer so you don’t lose your momentum going into 4th grade. The fallwill be filled with many challenges and you want to be rested, relaxed and ready to go!

Reading: Google Slides Book Report

To continue encouraging and providing opportunities for reading, students will complete a book report using Google Slides.  The focus of this book report should be a grade level appropriatefiction or non-fiction book that the student has read over the summer.  Use the link below if you need help finding chapter books for summer reading: -​ http://www.ala.org/alsc/publications-resources/book-lists/2021-summer-reading-list

Directions: - Google Slides. Students will open a new Google Slides presentation in Google. (Click on the waffle>Slide > Blank Presentation) In the top left corner, they will rename the presentation to

“​Last Name- 4th Grade Book Report.​” During the first week of school, the students will share their completed presentation with their fourth grade teacher. 

Below you will find the components that need to be included on each slide. On the slides that require descriptions, students should write in complete sentences. Students can use whichever Google Slides theme they prefer and are allowed to customize it to their liking. 

Slide 1

Your Name, Title, and Author of book.

Slide 2

Write a summary of the story in 5-7 sentences.

Slide 3

Describe the setting (where and when does the story take place)

Slide 4

Describe the main character (s).  Choose two character traits and provide evidence from the story that supports why those traits fit the character(s).

Describe the theme or the main message of the story. 

Slide 6

Students will write if they would or would not recommend this book to a friend-explain why or why not.
